Why is there evil in the world? Why do people do bad things? Lie? Cheat? Steal? Kill? You would think people wouldn’t want bad things to happen to them so they would avoid committing such atrocities, but it still happens. As if that should be enough of a deterrent, but it isn’t. I can understand the inherent will to “do good” doesn’t exist in everyone just like the inherent will to “do evil” doesn’t. …unless you’re like the spawn of Satan haha. I believe that all mannerisms are taught or learned, but they can be augmented in our minds because of how they make us react to the outcomes. Good outcomes, we gravitate towards increasing the frequency of and bad outcomes are undesirable and we seek to avoid.
Oh observant eyes of mine, help me to understand.
I think there are 4 types of people when considering the context of good and bad. First, you have the ones who need to do good to live. They base their entire existence on helping, philanthropic work, or giving back to those in need. Then you have the ones who try not to do bad things. They tend to avoid hurting others, but sometimes the “ends justify the means” or they just slipped and couldn’t do anything about it. The remorse is there along with the desire to have the power of prevention. Next are the people who don’t shy away from doing harm to the lives of others. They are the conscience deficient and have the ethical loopholes. The remorse is there, but more in a sense of nonchalance than active repentance. “Sucks for you, but that’s life.” Finally there are the true assholes of society. They consist of the kind of people that would kick a kid in the face just to see them cry. They get off on taking an old lady’s purse or seeing body in the streets,
“Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
Even I have slipped sometimes. I guess that means I belong to the group that tries to avoid the bad. I would like to be in that pure good forst group, but the force is not that strong in me yet. Maybe after some more years of meditation and learning stronger discipline will I cease all negative actions. But I recognize how evil actions done to me make me feel and I don’t want to inflict that upon anyone else.
Shouldn’t that be everybody?
It’s the last group my mind questions the existence of. The first group obviously doesn’t contribute to the evil quota in society. The second and third group adhere to my philosophy that you don’t want it done to you so you feel it when you put that energy into the universe, But that last group is violation. I don’t understand. The true sociopaths of civilization that are hard to find sometimes, but they do exist. How does their minds take in suffering as pleasure? What about them makes them wish to do harm?
Why do they not change when harm is done to them?
I guess this post is more of questions than observational. Sorry about the lack of a point today. Just wanted to purge my mind a bit. If you have any insight please let me in on it. Why don’t people just do good?
Til next time. …do good.
“Till next time…do good.” I don’t have any scientific reasons why some people chronically do evil other than maybe it’s a genetic fluke…no conscience. Or is it because they were so severely traumatized when they were young? I don’t understand it, either. All I can do is try to be kind and good to others and hope that my good actions create a ripple effect that changes the lives of others. A great post, buddy! Keep up the good work! Much love and many, friendly, naked hugs! 🙂

Hoping for the best seems to be all that we can do. Eventually your way of thinking will become the majority and then we shall see some real change in the world.

I believe Roger hit the nail on the head. Your forth group doesn’t connect with the rest of the world with empathy or simpathy. This is something biological, neurological, and or the result of a trauma. It is the only way they know. The only way that makes sense to them. Inflict pain; emotional or physical. When done to them, it is merely a reinforcer that the world is bad and they need to be worse to thrive.

I will most certainly agree with you, they really don’t connect. I’m still baffled at their existence though.
